MS and the Ride

In the United States, today, there are approximately 400,000 people with multiple sclerosis (MS). Approximately 200 more people are diagnosed every week. Worldwide, MS is thought to affect more than 2.5 million people. While more and more people are becoming survivors of this disease, there is still no cure.

My name is Ted Yates and I'm a retired reading teacher from the Moon Area School District. I've been married to my wonderful wife for 40 years and we have two lovely daughters. With their support I was able to bike across the US for MS six years ago. While doing so I found that this adventure, while being a great physical challenge, was also a very worthwhile way to help people with MS. It is because of this reason that five years ago I decided to bike the U.K. for the same cause. Three years ago I  joined Bike the US for MS's Northern Tier Team in Fargo, ND and rode to Seattle where I then joined the Pacific Coast Team and biked from Seattle to San Diego. My entire trip  covered over 3,800 challenging miles. This was 700+ miles longer than my Trans America journey. All 2020 and 2021 rides were canceled due to the pandemic. Last year I rode with the Atlantic Coast Team  from St. Augustine, Florida to Bar Harbor, Maine and from there I continued on to Fargo, ND, 4,500 miles. This year my goal is to raise as much money as possible for the National MS Society and for the Bike the US for MS Foundation. I plan to do this by  riding in the 150 mile, two day local event (The Escape to the Lake) and by riding 361 miles around the Olympic Peninsula with Bike the US for MS. I hope to raise $5,000 and I will need your support to accomplish my goal. I promise you, there is no better feeling than knowing that you were a part of an amazing mission that successfully helps so many people!
