The beautiful Oregon Coast Our ride out of Astoria was pleasant because we were able to use the bike trail that then lead us to some farm roads that weren’t very busy. However, once we hit The Pacific Coast Highway, Rt. 101, traffic was extremely heavy. I wasn’t all that comfortable looking to the right, which revealed beautiful vistas of the Pacific, while cars were buzzing next to my left shoulder. Our first rest stop was at Sea Side, Oregon. The little beach town was bustling with volleyball enthusiasts. A large televised match was taking place as we road by on the ocean front trail. Once we hit mile 50 the road was less rolling and we made good time to the inland community of Tillamook, Oregon where we’ve pitched out tents behind the local YMCA. This evening I’m sitting at Pelican Brewery celebrating Ernie Gonzales’s Birthday. Ernie is around my age and is one of the route leaders. I’ve enjoyed riding with Ernie the last two days but tomorrow he’s back to driving one of the support vans. I’ve just finished eating a Pittsburgh Pulled Pork Sandwich. I believe because they put coleslaw and fries on it it became a Pittsburgh Sandwich. I complained though because they didn’t have Heinz Ketchup for the tater tots, very disappointing! I’m headed to bed soon but I need the sun to go down first.
