Tumbling Ted

Bruised and battered

Riding through a hidden redwood grove

I woke up this morning late and was excited that we only had an easy 30 mile day riding on the Avenue of the Giants. It’s a slow pace winding road through the magnificent redwoods. After a leisurely Logger’s Breakfast at a little restaurant near the camp we set out at a slow sightseeing pace. We visited a number of hidden redwood groves and took pictures on some of the huge fallen trees. We stopped at the welcome center and learned that the forest was named after Alexander Humboldt, naturalist, geologists, climatologist etc. even though he never visited the area. The day was going great until we visited the tree you can ride your car through. I was excited to do this even though I had to pay $3.00 to do so. I rode through with Dean. Kelly want us to stop as we exited the tree so she could get a picture of us. When I started to peddle after stopping my clip-in-shoe on the left side got stuck and I couldn’t put my foot down and I fell over a rough cement embankment. It was one of the hardest falls I’ve ever taken. I bruised and cut my arm, leg and back. I’m sitting in a rundown campground nursing my wounds tonight but I’ll be ready to ride the 87 miles tomorrow. We have one of our steepest climbs tomorrow so I’m excited to see how I do.
