California Dreaming

Riding with the pros

Prepping for my day’s ride

Our group is soaring through Southern California

Spectators along the road

After a great rest day with Cindy in Santa Barbara we continued on our way south to LA. The day began with a leisurely ride through Santa Barbara and then on a winding bike trail to Ventura. Traffic, both vehicle and foot, was light after the mayhem of the Labor Day Weekend. Today we rode in a larger group than usual. Angie and Lina decided to slow down a little so some of us guys could hang with them. I really enjoy riding with these two young ladies because they are such good cyclist and I usually learn something new when I ride with them. They both ride keeping a steady cadence at most times. They shift quickly to easier gears and keep that steady pedaling when going up hills. I usually try to grind my way up and that method really taxes my muscles. Using their method, I get up the hills a little faster and my legs aren’t as fatigued. You CAN teach an “old dog” new tricks. Today’s 70 miles flew by and we entered LA Country just before our campground near the beach. We’re about 10 miles from Malibu. Tomorrow we head to Huntington Beach where we’ll be staying with former Bike the US for MS Riders.
