The End of the Road (New)

Maura surprises me by greeting me at the finish line.

Dr. Nick Patrone from the 2017 Southern Tier Ride is at the finish line. He’ll be riding the Southern Tier as soon as the vans are ready to roll out of San Diego.

Cindy meets me at the finish line

3,800+ miles and I’ve come to the end of my road. A celebratory moment indeed.

I’m sorry for this late posting but since I crossed the finish line I’ve been either celebrating or trying to figure out how to pack all of my gear so that I can get on an airplane and fly home. Also, Cindy and I wanted to show Maura around San Diego. I want to thank all of you who have been following my incredible journey and all of you that have supported my effort. I’m a little weather beaten and I’ve lost about 20 pounds but overall I feel great. I still have some poison ivy that I must have gotten while camping. I probably pitched my tent in it. My scrapes and bruises have healed that I acquired from my “standing still,” fall. After so many miles on some dangerous roads I’m very thankful that I completed the ride safely and that all of my teammates did likewise. My last day began with a slight climb out of Carlsbad. After a short 5 miles we found a great breakfast place and most of us enjoyed a leisurely breakfast. Our next 25 miles included o long and hot climb to Torrey Pines. But after that we just had a few short rolling hill and then a nice downhill to Mission Bay where we were great by family and friends. I was surprised and elated to see my daughter, Maura, standing with Cindy. After some group photos, a champagne shower and good food we all met at the hotel pool where we enjoyed a very “Happy Hour.”
