A Hard Day in the Adirondack Mountains

Leaving Middleberry was a little sad. The town was wonderful and the people were great. It was the ideal rest spot.

We entered New York via a ferry and almost immediately we started climbing into the Adirondack Mountains. The climb was long and relatively steep and the wind was out of the west at 15 to 20 mph. With the wind directly in our faces it made the climb all the more difficult. The roads were very lightly traveled and we had a wide shoulder. The ride was beautiful but I know I missed a lot because I climb with my head down. I don’t like to look at the apex of a steep and long ascent. I just look at the white line on the road.

Become we had a number of steady climbs throughout the day I was extremely happy to arrive at our campsite in Newcomb, NY. After almost setting one of the picnic tables on fire while experimenting with a larger homemade stove we finally resorted to a little propane burner. I can’t say dinner was a huge success by we got a lot of laughs fron our folly. It’s very cool tonight and I’m pretty sure I’ll be using both of my sleeping blankets. I really enjoy tenting so I know I’ll get a good night’s sleep.
