The mighty Mississippi
What a difference the wind can make. Today’s ride, despite the long milage, was not very difficult because the wind was not in our faces and the roads were smooth. The scenery changed once we crossed the Mississippi and entered Iowa. It was definitely more rolling and there were more shade trees. The roads were well maintained and drivers gave us a lot of room when passing.
Tonight we’re staying in Oxford Junction, a sad looking little town. Most of the store fronts are boarded up and most of the young people have left. The town doesn’t have a pharmacy and has just a tiny grocery store. There is one diner and an old rundown tavern where most of the patrons are over 60 years old. We’re staying at the senior center and I feel right at home. I even had some pudding and tried to get everyone to play bingo but most people were already sleeping by 8:00 PM.
Oxford Junction
Tomorrow we have another 90+ mile day. Hopefully it will be like today’s ride.
