Sunrise at Sodus Point
Today was the day we had all been impatiently waiting for, flat land. We are now on the Erie Canal and will ride this wonderful trail all the way to Buffalo. After a wet night in Sodus Point we had a short 26 mile jaunt on rolling hills to Palmyra where we intersected the canal. The trail from Palmyra to Buffalo is a mix of gravel and asphalt. It’s used by many walkers and cyclist so we didn’t ride as fast but that’s fine with me. I needed a breather.

Chad and Shanon
We have two new riders today that are going to ride for three days. Shanon and Chad joined the team at Sodus Point and will ride with us to Buffalo. Shanon was a route leader on the 2017 Southern Tier the year I rode this route. She’s a really awesome person and it’s great to see her again. She lives in Rochester and works at the REI that is next to the trail. She arranged for REI to host our last rest stop before our destination at Spencerport.
Tonight we’re staying at a church and tomorrow we should have an easy 55 mile day to Lockport. However, it’s supposed to rain and that can make for a slick and messy ride on the trail.
