Mountains and Lakes

Beautiful Racquet Lake

I’ve spent two days in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains and the mountain lakes. I was impressed by the size of these amazing bodies of water. The quaint resorts and summer homes surrounding the lakes we’re inviting. I’d love to come back with Cindy to hike and explore. There were a number of long steep climbs and the roads along the lakes were rolling. The ride would have been much more pleasant if there had not been a stiff cool 15 mph wind in our faces.

Racquet Lake

Last night we stayed in Old Forge, NY at a nice family campground. I really enjoy these nights sitting out and taking to the other riders about their lives away from cycling. We have teachers , professors , engineers, journalists, doctors and some people who are just trying to figure out their lives. They all have such interesting stories.

Today’s ride was a 77 mile ride out of the foothills toward Lake Ontario. The wind had finally subsided but although we were moving closer to level ground there were still rolling hills. We had 3,200 feet of climbing on these rollers. I road with Bernie, a retired mechanical engineer who helped build the space probe that is orbiting the sun. He rides like he’s orbiting the sun at a high rate of speed. He totally exhausted me by the time we pulled into Pulaski, NY. I’m glad he pushed me because I arrived early enough to do laundry at a laundry mat instead of in a bathroom sink.

I used the bathroom at this world famous hotel.

Tomorrow we have a 60 some mile day in the rain to Sodas Point where we’ll be camping on Lake Ontario. I’m not too excited to pitch my tent in a soggy campsite but I knew what I was signing up for.
