We had a magnificent day today. We’ve finally left highway 17 and we now are traveling the back roads. Today the wind was behind us and traffic was light. I was sailing along but at mile 25 I hit an object on the shoulder of the road that sliced my tire and caused me a little delay. I was able to put a temporary thick patch on the inside of the tire and then insert a new tube. Although I had a bulge in the tire I was able to finish the ride. Once at the Southern Baptist Church after an 80+ mile day I put a new tire on my bike. I believe I’m ready for tomorrow’s ride.
After a team spaghetti dinner which seems to be the only dinner we can make in mass quantities, we all walked to the ocean. We’re on the southern part of the Outer Banks in Davis, NC.
It was obvious that the older group members needed that 8:00 PM sweet fix. We went to Jim Dandy’s for ice cream and walked to an ocean lookout area to talk and enjoy a fine dessert.
Tomorrow we head north to Kitty Hawk.
We’re like fine wine, we are getting better with age. Right to left: Rich 76 years old, Ron 74, Dick and Mike 73 and myself a mere babe at 70.
