Myrtle Beach Memories

I’m sitting in North Myrtle Beach waiting for an Uber to take some of us to Barefoot Landing and Umberto’s Pittsburgh Italian Restaurant. This without a doubt is my favorite Myrtle Beach Restaurant.

I have nothing but found memories of Myrtle Beach. As a young adult I spent a week with my mother and father here where I had a wonderful time visiting old Barefoot Landing. My mother loved visiting the Christmas Shop and I loved the Magic Shop. Once Cindy and I were married we enjoyed many summers basking in the sun and the Grand Strand nightlife. After Makiala and Maura were born we had a number of memorable summer vacations and I had the chance to take them to Barefoot Landing and the old Magic Shop. They both loved the carousel there and each year we visited we took pictures of them as they rode their favorite colored horse. My mother in law, Dolly, accompanied us on many occasions and last year we enjoyed the company of my sister in law, Tara, and my brother in law, Chris plus thier lovely daughter Taylor. We had an awesome time.

The ride out of Georgetown this morning on Route 17 was again harrowing. As we traversed the bridge I thought the cross winds were going to blow me over the side of the bridge and into the water. The 10 miles along 17 was white knuckled until we got to Pawleys Island. There I had a chance to ride past many of the golf courses I had played a month before. Winding to and fro through Murrels Inlet and South Myrtle Beach kept us off of Highway 17. We pedaled more miles but the meandering was definitely safer than Route 17.

We made it to North Myrtle Beach by 4:00 and we are staying at a Lutheran Church. It’s a little cramped tonight so snoring will be the big topic of discussion in the morning.

Tomorrow we pedal to Wilmington, NC.
