I reluctantly crawled out of my tent to another cool morning rain. I wasn’t too enthused about riding even the short 30 miles to Amanda Park. We all tried our best to shake the rain off of our tents before putting them into the trailer. Once packed up I rode to the park inn and sat until 10:30 eating a very leisurely breakfast and sipping on coffee. Once done enjoying this luxury I rode with Todd and Kim at a nice steady pace. The rain stopped once in a while so the ride was already better than yesterday’s. Other than countless giant log trucks passing us at 60 mph the day was quite uneventful. I think I glimpsed a view of the Pacific Ocean through the fog.
Amanda Park was a very tiny hamlet with a few stores and a Pizza restaurant named Dino’s that didn’t have any pizza dough that day. So no pizza for us! However, I did have a decent steak dinner at a reasonable price so all was good.
That night we slept in the school gym that had motion detecting lights so that any time someone got up to use the restroom the lights came on. We did not have a very restful night’s sleep before our 86 mile day.
Flat tires are no fun unless you're 18 years old.
