I’ve been offered the opportunity to accompany Bernie and Donna Antkowiak and Butch Breegle as they make their way from Blacksburg, VA to Seattle, Washington to deliver the Bike the US for MS support vehicles. Along the way we plan to ride a number of well known bike trails in the states we pass through. Once in Seattle I will begin my charity ride around the Olympic Peninsula. At the conclusion of my journey Cindy will meet me in Seattle and we plan on spending four days at Mt. Rainier before returning to Pittsburgh.
Yesterday Cindy drove Butch and myself to met Bernie and Donna in Cambridge, OH. After a kiss goodbye from Cindy I hopped aboard the van with my bike and gear and we made our way to the Little Miami Trail just outside of Cincinnati. At the trail head we jumped on our bikes for a quick 25 mile ride to Loveland, OH and back. The Little Miami trail is a paved, flat and beautiful path that follows the Little Miami River. Loveland is a lovely/ quaint little town with numerous restaurants and shops on the trail. There are numerous bridal shops. It is definitely for lovers. The area was extremely busy with restaurant goers, shoppers and people taking in a free summer concert in a large pavilion near the trail. I wished we could have stayed longer but we needed to drive another 2 hours to Greensburg, Indiana after our ride. We did have time to grab some dinner at a small brewery at the end of the trail. That’s a satisfying reward after riding.
After making our way through Cincinnati we arrived at our one star hotel in Greensburg. I got a room for Butch and myself. The woman at the desk eyed us suspiciously. I couldn’t figure out why until I went to the room and saw that it had a single bed. I immediately went back and asked her why there was only a single and she told me that I had booked the cheapest room when I called ahead. I immediately booked a room with 2 beds for $10 more and the woman breathed a sigh of relief and so did I.
Tomorrow we head to Belmont, WI.
